Early Pregnancy Workshop
This bi-monthly class is designed for the newly pregnant woman and her partner/support person. Attend this free and interactive 90 minute workshop, learning about your baby and some of the exciting changes and decisions surrounding pregnancy. The class will touch on: The development and growth of your baby; Exploring your changing body during pregnancy; Nutrition and supplementation for healthy MamaBaby pair; Choices in Childbirth: Providers and Deciding Where to Birth; Relaxation and Exercise throughout pregnancy; Staying connected with your partner; Financially planning for a baby.
Childbirth Intensive (2-day)
A dynamic, fun and experiential Childbirth Class that examines labor support techniques that really work. Exploring the joys and challenges of labor, this childbirth class empowers couples to labor and give birth at home , in a birth center, or in the hospital. Working from the fundamental belief that labor is a natural process, this class helps women achieve a birth free from interference. We will also cover how to consciously use intervention when needed, and what you might be faced with while in the hospital or at home. Using a multisensory approach we examine the following topics: stages of labor; relaxation techniques, comfort measures and active birth positions; stages of labor; preparing your partner for labor and birth; medications; active labor with an epidural; in the event of a cesarean birth; creating a birth plan; postpartum adjustment, newborn care; breastfeeding; and more! Parents will learn through interactive and creative participation, in a spirit of fun and curiosity. Our course is balanced, down to earth, and non-judgmental.
One-Day Refresher (Experienced mothers only!)
This course is intended for experienced mothers, needing a refresher on childbirth topics. This course will cover comfort measures, relaxations techniques for mom [and partner], induction, medication and interventions, birth planning, and informed choice. We will also review the standard procedures in the hospital and out-of hospital setting. The course will conclude with a discussion on immediate postpartum, breastfeeding, newborn care, and sibling preparation.
Comfort Measures and Relaxation (6pm-9pm Every 2nd Monday-Even Months)
Learn positions and movement for comfort during birth, that can both speed labor, reduce discomfort and increase confidence. Discover the importance of gravity and your babies innate abilities to assist in the birthing process along with simple techniques to reducing back labor, posterior presentation, interventions and birth injuries. In the second part of the class, discover your natural coping style and techniques for a more comfortable birth experience. We will provide an overview of a variety of relaxation techniques including focused awareness, breathing and comfort massage. Partners or support people encouraged to attend. Single mothers are welcome and encouraged to attend.
Get your VBAC! (4-weeks)
Have you had a previous cesarean and exploring or hoping for a vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC)? This informative 4-week session prepares you for a VBAC and will provide a space for you to tell your birth story, begin to heal from any birth related trauma, help you explore your own readiness, discover the options available in the DC Metro Area (providers, locations) and provides nurturing coping skills to give you every chance for success. The first class is for mothers only and the subsequent classes are open to all partners, fathers, and support persons. Personal support for mothers and/or couples are available in as private consultation.
